What is common between Delta of the river and syntactic analysis?

Many large rivers, flowing into the sea, branch on numerous channels. They fan-shaped disperse on ground outstanding in the sea, which refers to as delta. This name has entered in V century up to AD by ancient Greek historian Gerodot who has noticed similarity between the triangular form of a mouth of Nile and the header Greek letter "delta" (Δ).

To model treelike objects and processes in Mathematics an abstract structure - a tree-graph is used. It turned out that natural language sentence also has branching hierarchical structure: word subordination form a tree.
